This March, Macnas hit the national headlines and TV news broadcasts in three countries, all within a few days of each other.
We first took centre stage at the world-famous SXSW (South By Southwest) Festival in Austin Texas. President Barack Obama gave the keynote address at this prestigious festival and Macnas were thrilled to take over Austin’s famous 6th street, filling the street and it’s spectators with magic and wonder. Macnas were chosen by IDA Ireland as a symbol of Irish innovation and creativity. The parade was covered extensively by national and international media and generated thousands of stunning images by professional and amateur photographers alike.
“Ireland Inc. has plenty to smile about after SXSW Interactive. The decision to bring street performance group Macnas along with the usual Irish entourage, was an inspired choice. Its performance on Sixth Street in downtown Austin was a first for the event and drew a huge crowd.” – Irish Times, March 17, 2016
London’s St. Patricks Day Parade was next, Macnas’ first time participating in the event, which wound its way through Trafalgar Square and saw Crom proudly stomping through the streets. Macnas were broadcast live on Periscope and featured in UK national media and the evening news broadcast.
Finally, it was homeward bound to Galway’s St. Patricks Day parade with our Young Ensemble blazing a trail through Eyre Square, down Shop Street, taking us all the way home to Fisheries Field.
Our social media direct reach in March was over 2 million with an extended reach of over 10 million across Facebook, twitter, Instagram and periscope featuring thousands of positive messages flooding our social media channels.
