Spring is always such a busy time here in Fisheries Field. March suddenly arrives and before we know it St. Patrick’s Day is upon us and we take off in so many different directions.
We love to do things in three’s so here’s what we’re up to this year. The Macnas Young Ensemble takeover the streets of Galway for the St Patrick’s Day Parade this year, creating magic, mayhem and buffoonery. These young schemers are drawn from all over the city and love to conjure up chaos and comedy, showcasing their skills, talent and energy. Keep an eye out for us if you are lining the streets of Galway – we’re kind of hard to miss, in fairness.
Our Boy Explorer leads us to Derry for the Curious Carnival which takes place on St. Patrick’s Day. Macnas presents a spectacular processional performance with our own kaleidoscope of curiosity; A magical 15-foot high Boy Explorer; his giant butterfly and Maya the Elephant along with a cacophony of performers and musicians. Macnas look forward to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Derry-Londonderry, a city steeped in history, culture and tradition.
Finally our little jewel in the crown: Ériu, takes place on the 16th of March in the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. We get to celebrate St. Patrick’s Festival, Body and Soul style with their unique blend of visual installation and the best of Irish ól, ceol and craic. We add a little Macnas magic to the beautiful surrounding of IMMA with a large installation image. Tickets available here.
