Macnas is swiftly embracing the new year with a full schedule of national and international projects and productions. It promises to be yet another busy year as we strengthen existing relationships, begin new partnerships, energize old traditions and, most importantly, create new and exciting work.
First off, the company will resume its module in Street Theatre Practice at NUI Galway next week. Devised by Artstic Director, Noeline Kavanagh, the twelve week course will culminate in a presentation of work from students in Macnas’ signature style under the direction and tutelage of Jonathan Gunning and Miquel Barcelo. We are also busy working with our talented Young Ensemble and a range of company artists to deliver our final Fund It reward, a late night cabaret in early February.
March sees two Macnas performances on St. Patrick’s Day in both Dublin and Moscow. We’re looking forward to our return to Russia’s Gorky Park and to the huge crowds on O’Connell Street so keep an eye out for us if you’re there or watching on TV or online.
Later in the year we will debut a brand new indoor production, Melodica, with dates and venue to be confirmed. The production is a highly anticipated, exciting new venture for Macnas as we team up with writer Darrach Mac Con Iomaire to deliver a vivid theatrical adventure on an ambitious scale.
In October we will be mounting another Halloween parade in Galway. Following the immense success of On the Night Journey in 2013, we cannot wait to get back onto the streets with our wild and wonderful performers and large scale images. If the audience are as welcoming, receptive and numerous as last year, we are in for a magical night.
In the meantime, we are moving our workshop from Liosbán to Ballybrit which means plenty of lifting and heaving to make sure all of our tools, images and equipment are set up in time for this year’s projects.
We look forward to seeing you at some of our performances over the next twelve months. Here’s to a fantastic 2014 for everyone!
